Bishop Michael Mulvey presided over the 17th annual "Liturgy to Begin the School Year" where more than 700 Catholic school students, staff and teachers from all over the diocese gathered for Mass at Corpus Christi Cathedral on Aug. 24. Students proudly displayed their school's banner and served as altar servers, lectors, choir members and the offertory.
Priests from several Catholic school parishes concelebrated Mass with Bishop Mulvey.
In his homily Bishop Mulvey told students that a little competition among the schools is healthy–but to keep in mind that we are all united by Jesus Christ. The role of the church is for everyone to have the same vision in Jesus Christ and that is… "Father, may they all be one. As I am in you and you in me, may they be one in us."
"When these banners are put aside I would ask you to pick up another banner–the banner of unity, peace, love and joy," the bishop said.
