The Missionary Congregation of the Daughters of St. Thomas will be leaving the Diocese of Corpus Christi on May 13 for a new assignment in the Diocese of Chicago.
Sisters Jaini Gregory, DST, Viji George, DST, and Brillymole Joseph, DST, belong to a Missionary Congregation for women founded in the Syro-Malabar Church in Kerala, India. The sisters were involved in pastoral care and have been working at Christus-Spohn Hospital on Shoreline and Mount Carmel Assisted Living Center giving nursing care.
For the past two years they have been living in Faith Home, which is one of two shelters offered by Hope House. They shared the home with women who because of domestic violence, homelessness or addiction are completely abandoned and alone.
The sisters served as live-in house mothers and midwives. They provided spiritual guidance and compassion to the women who lived with them.
“We will continue to work as missionaries. We have enjoyed our stay in Corpus Christi and will miss all the dear ones and the women at Hope House. It has been a rewarding job, challenging and spiritual,” said Sister Jaini, who was the resident in charge of Faith Home.
The sisters expressed their appreciation to all the people of God—all the priests and religious and the entire laity of the diocese—who helped them and who made their stay in Corpus Christi a “very happy” experience.
“We know that everything is possible with God and nothing happens in our life without His knowledge, so we are confident,” Sister Jaini said.
“We are sad to see them leave, they will be missed,” Melissa Juarez, Director of Hope House, said.
“The sisters have provided invaluable services to Hope House, Spohn Hospital and Mount Carmel Home and will be missed,” Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey said.
