Students at Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level will celebrated Mass on Friday, May 16, in the school’s James R. Dougherty Center. As May is the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary, students participated in the crowning of Mary at the start of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, students chose to bring baby items such as baby powder, bottles, wipes and bibs to donate to the Corpus Christi Hope House, a non-profit organization that provides shelter and assistance for homeless, abused, and abandoned pregnant women and their children.
In addition, a collection of diapers was donated to the Hope House through generous funds provided by The Meadows Foundation.
“Mary, as our spiritual mother, watches and intercedes for us,” IWA Religious Studies Teacher Mimi Guajardo said. “We, here on earth, must be concerned for the less fortunate. Hope House is in need of these items to help out mothers-to-be who come to them for assistance.”
After Mass, students presented the baby items and diapers to representatives from the Corpus Christi Hope House.
