CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, the region’s only nationally accredited cancer program, announced June 27 that it has completed acquisition of South Texas Comprehensive Cancer Centers (STCCC). The acquisition adds two physicians, Hematologist/Medical Oncologist Mohamad Ghraowi, MD and Radiation Oncologist Lalitha Janaki, MD, 16 employees, two treatment centers in Calallen and Corpus Christi’s Westside location at 19th Street and three medical offices in Alice, Aransas Pass and Beeville.
With its emphasis on access and quality care, CHRISTUS Spohn’s acquisition of STCCC was a natural fit. The group’s physicians, clinical team members and staff–as well as their geographic locations–complement CHRISTUS Spohn’s nationally accredited cancer program. These new locations will provide care and technology close to home that has made the CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Center program a leader in South Texas.
“Our strategic rationale for this acquisition is to meet the evolving needs of our community by broadening access and enhancing cancer care to South Texans,” Pam Robertson, President and CEO of CHRISTUS Spohn Health System said. “We believe this transaction will strengthen our cancer program and patients will benefit from the resources, such as support groups, technology, and specialists that CHRISTUS Spohn can provide.”
“We are excited to welcome our new patients and their families to CHRISTUS Spohn,” said Thomas Enright, Director, CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Program.
The Cancer Program is accredited by American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and received the highest approval rating. Full compliance ratings were awarded for all 36 standards. Commendations include: perfect quality of data submitted to the National Cancer Database by the Cancer Registry; excellent physician staging documentation; prevention and early detection programs; and implementation of cancer-related improvements to program each year.
