Educator Lisa Godinez from Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation teaches 2nd grade students at Central Elementary School on March 20 of the dangers of getting hooked on tobacco and nicotine products. The class is part of an approved model program from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) called Too Good for Drugs™ 1-8. It is designed to equip all students with healthy skills and attitudes they need to remain safe and drug-free.
Godinez teaches students from K3 through 5th grade once a week at Central Catholic School. The 2nd grade students learn the value of making healthy decisions by completing activity sheets and acting out healthy lifestyles by playing charades. Each grade level has a separate, developmentally-appropriate curriculum that enables students to learn important skills sequentially and retain them year after year.
