Three Catholic women of the Diocese of Corpus Christi were honored as “Outstanding Church Women” at the Church Women United (CWU) annual luncheon, “May Friendship Day.” Honored were Orfelinda Hernandez, of Cathedral Parish, Genevieve Machalee of St. Patrick’s and Barbara Sherman of St. Peter Prince of the Apostle.
Each woman was honored for outstanding service to her parish and to the community at large. They were part of group of 12 honored from local churches. Also honored for dedicated service and help to the CWU was Cathedral’s Mary Lawson.
CWU is a global ecumenical prayer movement for justice peace and reconciliation. The luncheon at the First United Methodist Church utilized the theme “Sounds and Sights of Harmony, Listening to our Sisters” and included communal prayer, singing and a skit based of the Biblical book of Ruth.
