More than 800 representatives from the 19 Catholic schools across the Diocese of Corpus Christi gathered together at Corpus Christi Cathedral for the 14th annual Mass to open the academic year.
Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey celebrated Mass, asking for God's blessings upon all schools and students as the new learning year begins. He urged students to be still and listen to God within themselves.
Many of the schools in the Diocese of Corpus Christi have been in session since the beginning of August and while exact numbers are still coming in, it appears that this year's enrollment will exceed 3,700 students, an increase over last year for the 15 elementary, two middle and two high schools in the Catholic system.
Due to the inability of the Cathedral to accommodate all current students at once, each Catholic campus in the diocese sent their exiting grade to the Mass.
