Bishop will ordain Becerra as deacon

Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey will ordain Christopher Emmanuel Becerra to the Sacred Order of Deacon through the laying on of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit. The ordination will take place on Saturday, May 26 at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Cathedral.

A reception will follow in St. Joseph Hall immediately after. Becerra, a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, is a third year theology student at St. Mary Seminary in Houston.

Bishop Mulvey has assigned Becerra to serve as parochial deacon at St. Phillip the Apostle parish in Corpus Christi, effective June 4 through Aug. 3. 

"I know you will work closely with your pastor, Father Hanh [Van Pham], in order to assist him in continuing the good work of the pastoral care of the parish," Bishop Mulvey said to Becerra in his letter of appointment. 

After his stay at St. Phillip, Becerra will return to the seminary for the final year of theological formation.
