Parishioners at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Portland welcomed Bishop Michael Mulvey as he celebrated Mass and blessed the newly renovated Perpetual Adoration Chapel on July 16. “It was a special day for our parish community because not only were we celebrating the 30th anniversary and rededication of our Perpetual Adoration Chapel,” said Norma Ochoa, a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel said. “It was also the Feast Day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,”
“The Blessed Sacrament is an extension of the Eucharist at Mass,” Bishop Mulvey said as he prepared to give the renovated Perpetual Adoration Chapel a blessing. “It is a continuation of the Mass celebrated in church, and in today’s blessing of the renovated chapel, which is quite beautiful, I will ask our Lord to continue to bless each and every one of your families, our country and our world.”
Immediately following Mass and the blessing of the chapel, the parish community gathered in the parish hall for a dinner reception celebrating the festivities. Carlene Read, a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel for decades, said the rededication of the chapel is a significant event in the history of the church. “I’m honored to have been a part of the church community over the years,” she said.
