On March 22, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth Parishes in Alice will host a Mini-Youth Spectacular: Branded by Mission. Father E. Julián Cabrera, pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Jaime Reyna, Diocesan Director of Youth Ministry, inspired the Catholic youth event.
Father Cabrera’s inspiration came from the Bishop Michael Mulvey’s invitation to create a collaborative ministry among the Catholic churches in Alice as well as his desire to build and nurture an active youth ministry.
“Our youth are hungry for the truth and we must provide them with opportunities to have authentic encounters with Christ,” Julia Fracker, the Mini-Youth Spectacular Chairperson, said. “This encounter is the kind that can transform lives and encourage our young people to think how God wants them to serve, even to consider becoming a priest or religious brother or sister.”
The theme, “Branded by Mission,” comes directly from Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel, which says that all people are sealed or branded by a mission to evangelize and spread the loving message of Christ. This is a mission that defines the Christian purpose regardless of age, gender, race or denomination.
The day will include live music, Eucharistic Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Celebration of Mass as well as keynote talks from Father Pete Elizardo and Father Cabrera.
The Mini-Youth Spectacular will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Alice on Saturday, March 22. The event is open to youth 6th grade through high school. Individuals must register with a church youth group to attend and the cost is $10 per person. Last day to register is Wednesday, March 19. Lunch will be provided and all early registrations will receive a free t-shirt.
