Russ Martin, Director of Broadcast Operations at KLUX, will be receiving an award from General Manager Deacon Mark Cazalas on June 6th, acknowledging his leadership, guidance and support throughout the many years of success in which he has made a significant and heartfelt impact on our team’s success. The award will be presented “in grateful appreciation of 30 years of service as Director of Broadcast Operations, commending his hard work, perseverance and unceasing dedication to Catholic Broadcasting in South Texas… an amazing milestone,” said Deacon Cazalas.
Russ is very thorough and accurate in everything he puts on the air. His dedication to Diocesan Telecommunications Corp./KLUX 89.5HD is admirable and unwavering.
He has been a veteran of radio and television for over 55 years. A U.S. Army Veteran with over 50 parachute jumps, a licensed SCUBA Diver, and a licensed private pilot, Russ came to KLUX on D-Day 1994 after having worked on-air in commercial radio at KXVI/Dallas, KXOL/Fort Worth, KGVL/Greenville, TX, KGOE/Thousand Oaks, CA, WFLB/Fayetteville, NC, WBSR/Pensacola, FL and KRYS/K.99 and KOUL/Corpus Christi. He prepares the daily logs, production, and schedules, fills in on the air, and creates most of the scripts you hear on the station. His creativity, voice and talent helped make KLUX what it is today.
In addition to his duties at KLUX, Russ sings professionally, enjoys trivia and is the track announcer at over 2,000 stock car races across Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and even Chihuahua, Mexico. He is also an accomplished casino dealer at fundraisers for churches, schools, and other non-profits all over South Texas.
Russ’ greatest joys are his family, son Russ III, daughter Kimberly, and grandsons Caleb and Aiden. Retirement is still a word he avoids whenever possible.
KLUX is a radio station serving Corpus Christi and surrounding areas of Texas. Its secular, easy-listening music format is filled with inspirational messages, helping to reach listeners worldwide with its Catholic content. It broadcasts on FM frequency 89.5MHz and is owned by Diocesan Telecommunications Corporation, which is, in turn, part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi.
